Guwahati has considerably good sporting facilities, boasting of the Nehru Stadium, while the Kanaklata Indoor Stadium in the R.G. Baruah Sports Complex (in Ulubari locality) is one of the oldest sports complex of the city. There are smaller stadiums in Maligaon (the N.F. Railway Stadium) and in Palton Bazaar area like the SAI Sports complex is located. 

Guwahati was also the host for 33rd National Games and many sports complexes were constructed at that time.A large stadium at Sarusajai—the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, the Dr. Zakir Hussein Aquatic Complex, and the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi A.C. Indoor Hall were part of it.


Other new sports structures include the Maulana Md. Tayabullah Hockey Stadium at Bhetapara, the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium at Ulubari, Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Amingaon, and Chachal Tennis Complex are constructed to create new generation sports youths. The other renovated sports complexes include—Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium, Khanapara, Rudra Singha Sports Complex, Dispur and Gauhati University sports stadium. Moreover, along the Brahmaputra River, there are many lakes and rocky hills which are a hub of water and adventure sports.
