The Assam Online Portal is a unique venture of the Govt. of Assam, Information Technology Department. It has many components and sub components. It has been inspired by the dream vision of Sri Tarun Gogoi, Hon'ble Chief Minister and Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon'ble IT Minister who took a decision in the Cabinet that met in the evening of the 28th July, 2009, "... the Assam Secretariat shall go fully digital".
The entire project is based on two wings-
- Assam Online Portal &
- Secretariat: Secretariat Less Paper Office (SLPO).
However, there are a host of components, sub components and modules that encompass the entire project gamut of the AOP & SLPO.
Currently Gigabit LAN connectivity is going on in the different blocks of the Secretariat. One training center for employees has been readied. Deployment of thin clients (Assam would have the biggest ever deployment of FOSS based thin clients in any Secretariat in the country, We are GREEN too!) has already started. For Assamese localization, we shall be releasing as many as 20 Assamese true type scalable fonts...all for free from the Govt of Assam for the Assamese community across the Globe...
The hardware stack includes hosting infrastructure for the AOP which is currently being implemented at AMTRON (as our State Data Center- another Flagship project of the IT Department and the first ever Mission critical IT infrastructure of the NE India, will take some more time for launch), SUN RAY servers with 264 GB RAM, 2000 Thin clients, UBUNTU Laptops for all Secretaries, new HYBRID smart card Identity cards, biometric authentication, RSA security tokens for secretaries and above(meaning office anywhere anytime, just need to connect), Gigabit LAN with CISCO Core switches, distribution and edge switches, dedicated OFC links... This is as of now. 80% of the stuff is under deployment, and rest 20% under procurement.
The software stack includes AOP on LIFERAY, SLPO on ALFRESCO, POSTGRE SQL.
