Overview
The Assam State Election commission is a permanent department. The superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of Electoral roll for and the conduct of all elections to panchayats/Urban local bodies shall be vested into state election commission consisting of a state Election Commissioner to be appointed by the Governor. Govt. makes available to the state election commission such staff as may be necessary for the discharge of the functions conferred on the State Panchayat Election Commission under provision 114 of the Assam Panchayat Act 1994.
Power and duties of officers and employees
(a) Secretary : The Secretary of the Assam State Election Commission is posted by the Govt. He is the administrative authority and he is the overall in-charge of the department including drawing and disbursing officer.
(b) Under Secretary : The post is manned by the Govt. to assist the Secretary for administrative works and conducting of elections.
(c) Finance & Accounts Officer : The post is manned by Govt. for looking/advise regarding financial matters.
(d) Superintendent : The post is manned by Govt. to supervise the functions of the department.
(e) Accountant cum Cashier : The post is filled up by the Assam State Election Commission itself to deal with the matter sanction, cash etc.
(f) UDA, LDA, Typist : These post are manned by the Govt. for conduct of Election as well as departmental administrative jobs.
